Taking PTE Exam

PTE Academic is taken on a computer in a secure and friendly test center environment. The test is conducted in various cities all over the country.

Exam Dates

The exam is conducted 7 days a week in different time slots. Candidates can select the test date, test time, and test centre at his / her convenience.

Exam Booking

The exam can be booked from any of the test centers. The PTE exam fee has to be paid after selecting the exam center, date, and time slot. The candidate needs to book the PTE Exam within 24 hours of the PTE exam date.

Results

PTE result is declared within 2 working days, from the day of the main exam. The scores of PTE exams are valid for up to 2 years.

PTE modules

This test contains four modules: speaking, writing, reading, and listening, which are used to evaluate the student's proficiency in English. It takes approximately 2 hours and 30 minutes to complete the exam, which is conducted in three parts.

Difference between IELTS & PTE

IELTS and PTE, both are English proficiency tests used by students and professionals around the world, but for the past two decades, the acceptance of IELTS has grown worldwide, and it enjoys higher recognition by more and more universities, which become a reason enough for test takers across the globe to sit for this exam. While both tests assess a candidate's reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills, there are some differences in the test format, scoring system, and difficulty level. When deciding which test to take, aspirants should consider their personal strengths, study preferences, and target institutions or employers. If a candidate is comfortable with a computer-based format and prefers faster results, it may be a better option. On the other hand, if a candidate is more comfortable with a paper-based format and prefers a more traditional approach, IELTS may be the right choice.

Test differences: PTE vs IELTS

The structure of PTE Academic and IELTS is broadly similar. Both exams test students on all four language skills: speaking, writing, reading, and listening. However, the order that skills are tested, and the way the tasks are timed and organized are different:

Firstly, unlike IELTS, PTE Academic tests the integrated skills of speaking and writing. This is a more natural approach and reflects the way we use language in the real world.
Secondly, the its speaking section is completed on a computer (and assessed by artificial intelligence). This is in contrast to the IELTS speaking section, which is done face-to-face with a human examiner
The PTE Academic speaking section is computer-based, the whole test can be completed on the same day. In IELTS, the speaking section is completed on a different day – up to a week later.
The reading sections of IELTS and PTE Academic differ in terms of structure and timing. In PTE Academic, students answer fewer questions over a significantly shorter time. There are more individual texts, but they’re much shorter. Moreover, test takers are only asked one question per text. So, if they aren’t sure about the meaning of a text, they can move on to the next one. They won’t be asked five questions about one particular text.
The Listening sections in IELTS and PTE Academic are significantly different. IELTS has conversations and monologues set in social contexts. In contrast, its recordings are all from authentic academic sources. Similar to the Reading section, IELTS has fewer recordings and more questions, which can make things challenging for test takers.
In listening, the question types are quite different. IELTS requires students to complete the sentence, label a map or diagram, and match answers. PTE asks students to highlight incorrect summaries, and incorrect words, and write from dictation.
