Duolingo English Test (DET), is a standard way to measure your English skills. This test is the first one of its kind to be taken completely online. Universities liked the design of the DET, so it became more popular and widely accepted. Now, more than 4,000 universities allow you to use your DET score for your application.
This test offers a significant advantage in its convenience and accessibility, allowing test-takers to complete the test anytime and anywhere in the world. The test is entirely computer-based and can be taken from any location with an internet connection. The duration of the test will be one hour. We recommend that students take the test from home if possible.
First, sign up for an account at https://englishtest.duolingo.com/register. After signing up, click the "Buy Now" button to purchase the test. You can then take the test anytime within 21 days of purchasing it.
Furthermore, as mentioned above, the test is affordable, typically costing less than other English proficiency tests such as TOEFL or IELTS. The fee for Duolingo is INR 3800/-.
When registering for the Duolingo examination, applicants must provide a valid National ID photo proof such as a passport, driver's license, government ID, or military identification proof.
Candidates receive their results within 48 hours of taking the test.

The Duolingo English Test scores participants on a scale from 10 to 160, recognizing proficiency in English for scores above 120. This test adapts its structure based on the test-taker's performance, with question difficulty adjusting accordingly. As the test-taker answers questions correctly, the difficulty level increases, while incorrect answers lead to a decrease in difficulty. This adaptive format is a crucial aspect of the Duolingo English Test.
The introduction in the first 5 minutes walks the test takers through the test rules and requirements.
The test is divided into two parts. The first part consists of a 45-minute adaptive test comprising a series of questions that assess a candidate's English skills.
The other component is a 10-minute Writing and Speaking test featuring open-ended prompts, which are disclosed along with the candidate's score. This test employs active voice and incorporates transition words to enhance coherence and clarity.

You must be alone in the room. Your face and ears must be visible and uncovered. No headphones or earphones. No outside materials, including mobile devices, notes, or textbooks.

Candidate can take the Duolingo test 3 times in 30 days. But not more than that. Duolingo English test can be taken at any time, as no specific dates are set for the exam. DET is available on all days of the week and 24 hours throughout the day.
The first point of difference between the IELTS VS Duolingo exams is their formats. There are two types of IELTS namely: Academic Training and General Training. Under IELTS, while the listening and reading sections remain the same for all candidates, the reading and writing sections vary for different candidates. The Listening, Reading, and Writing tests have to be completed on the same day with no breaks in between the tests. However, when it comes to the Speaking test, the candidate can finish it either one week before or one week after the completion of the other tests. The total test duration of the IELTS is 2 hours and 45 minutes.

Duolingo English Test is currently accepted by approximately 4,634 schools worldwide and in 110 (out of 195) different countries across the world including the USA, UK, Canada, and Australia.
There is no specific age limit for taking the Duolingo English Test. Anyone who needs to prove his/her English language proficiency can take the test. Candidates below 13 years of age need parental consent to appear for the test. They need the consent of their parents or legal guardians to take the exam.
Test takers make sure their computer's camera, speakers, and microphone work well, submit their government-issued photo ID, and review the test rules and requirements. The exam assesses applicants' English skills with various question types. Questions are presented randomly throughout the test.
